The easiest Christmas product shot you need to be taking....and it looks amazing.

How to create this simple festive product shot

You really don’t need a mountain of Christmas props to create a beautiful festive image. Sometimes one really simple prop can completely change a shot.

For this setup? It’s literally a branch.

It adds height, texture and gives you something to hang, drape and display your products from — and you can adapt the exact same setup for jewellery, stationery, textiles and loads more.

1. Start with your backdrop

Tape your backdrop flat to the wall behind your setup. You want it to act as a simple background rather than competing with what’s happening in front.

Position a small table around 30–60cm away from the backdrop. This little bit of distance helps create depth and stops everything looking too flat.

Quick tip: For this kind of shot, choose a backdrop with enough texture and character to make the image interesting, but nothing so busy that it fights with your products.

2. Position your table next to a window

Natural light is all you need.

Position your setup so you have a window to the left or right-hand side, allowing the light to fall across the scene rather than hitting it straight on.

This gives you soft highlights on the product and gentle shadows on the opposite side.

Quick tip: You don't need to see the window in your photograph. You're simply using it as your light source.

3. Add one simple branch

Now for your hero prop.

Grab a branch with an interesting shape and place it into a vase. A large clear glass vase works brilliantly because it doesn't add too much visual weight to the shot.

You don't need foliage. You don't need flowers. Just the branch.

Turn it around until you find an angle with plenty of interesting little sections where you can hang or drape your products.

Quick tip: Wonky is good! Look for something slightly imperfect and organic rather than a perfectly straight branch.

4. Add your product

Now use the branch as part of the display.

For jewellery, hang necklaces or bracelets from the smaller branches and let them fall naturally.

For stationery, hang Christmas cards, gift tags or mini prints with string or ribbon — almost like little pieces of bunting.

For clothing and textiles, drape a scarf, ribbon or lightweight fabric over a branch rather than laying everything flat.

The idea isn't to cover the branch. You still want plenty of negative space around each product.

Quick tip: If you're hanging more than one item, vary the heights. Avoid putting everything in one perfectly straight line — a little variation will make the composition feel much more natural.

5. Add a subtle festive cue

Now, if you want to make the shot feel a little more Christmassy, you can.

But keep it simple.

Try one or two small baubles, a beautiful velvet ribbon or a delicate string of fairy lights.

That's genuinely enough.

Your customer doesn't need to see a Christmas tree, pine cones, baubles, presents, fairy lights and tinsel to understand that it's Christmas.

Quick tip: Think festive cue, not festive explosion. Your product should always be the first thing the eye lands on.

6. Adapt the exact same setup to your business

This is the really useful bit.

Once you've created the setup, don't just photograph one product and dismantle it. Think about all the different ways you could use it.

Florists: Style your wreath or arrangement underneath and let the branch create height behind it. You could also hang ribbon or tiny dried floral bundles from it.

Beauty & wellness: Keep bottles, jars and packaging on the table and use the branch to frame the products. Hair accessories, eye masks or small fabric products could also be hung from it.

Candles & home fragrance: Keep your candle or diffuser on the table as the hero and let the branch sit behind it. Add one tiny bauble or ribbon for a subtle Christmas reference.

Packaging & gifting: Hang gift tags, branded cards or ribbon from the branches and position your wrapped products underneath.

Stationery: Christmas cards, tags and mini prints can be hung like bunting.

Jewellery: Necklaces, bracelets and lightweight pieces can hang naturally from different sections of the branch.

Clothing & textiles: Scarves, ribbons and smaller accessories can simply be draped over it.

The main thing to remember

Your prop is there to support your product, not compete with it.

This is exactly why something as simple as a branch works so well.

One backdrop. One table. One vase. One branch. Some lovely window light.

That's it.

And you've suddenly got a setup you can use for everything from jewellery and stationery to candles, textiles, florals and gifting.

Sometimes the simplest props really do make the biggest difference.

Happy Styling!
